This is an interesting way to allocate political power. The Governor is a politician of state wide significance whereas TriMet and LTD have jurisdiction over only a fraction of Oregon. It strikes me as odd how a state wide leader has to ability to directly influence the actions of these local agencies. I personally tend to favor the governorence of communities over the leadership of governments. TriMet and LTD should have influence on Salem not the over way around.

Although maybe theres some complications between transit agencies and their state governments that inhibit the allocation of power to their districts.

You're correct! The office of the governor works with TriMet and LTD in Lane County to appoint board members to each respective board.

State Senator Bill Morrisette (D - Springfield) has been an advocate in trying to get these board members directly elected by the people, but to no avail.

This is a nice post, I believe that only the largest operating agencies in the country have some form of elected government. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the governor of Oregon appoint the chief officer of TriMet?

According to the Amtrak cascades website, two of the trains that go between Seattle and Vancouver 510&517 don't even have bike racks! so bikes have to be boxed. This is unacceptable and I'm submitting that with my comments as well. Thanks for the insight!

way to get involved! This article covers many fine points that are not often topics of consideration at the CRC meetings. The best think i think any of us can do is make sure our neighbors know about this project. There just is not much reason to spend so much money and make everyone miserable!
